Tanya Landman, the Carnegie Medal winning author, will be our author-in-residence for the forthcoming Book Week from 24th – 28th April. Tanya is a prolific author whose writing covers everything from pre-school picture books to Young Adult novels. Her writing takes in a variety of genres from quirky and magical tales for the very young, to more challenging mysteries for key stage 2 and 3 pupils and historical dramas for teenagers. Buffalo Soldier, set in post Civil War America, tackles the topic of newly freed slaves and their challenge to find a place in a rapidly changing society, often finding themselves as perpetrators of acts akin to those they themselves had faced before emancipation. It won the esteemed Carnegie Medal in 2015.
Tanya will be working with numerous Junior and Senior classes in school and discussing her life as an author, how she writes her stories, how language can be used across the curriculum, and how pupils themselves can improve their creative writing skills. Tanya will be at the centre of numerous events throughout the Book Week, included our beloved Book Fair, Drop Everything And Read, various literary related competitions, dressing up in Junior School, the hugely entertaining Teddy Bear’s Picnic, traditional Korean music, and student v. teachers debating.
